Code of Conduct
There are a few rules and guidelines that should be observed whilst playing the games available on Games.World
(currently Shades, Trash and Avatar-3). This isnt a complete list, - this is mainly what came to mind at the time of
writing, so please dont assume that if its not here its OK!
Complaints
Please contact myself (Perialaga), Chant or Damocles within Shades, Vick or Zarabeth in Avatar, or e-mail shades-admin@world.co.uk
or Zarabeth (Avatar) (zara@avatar.co.uk)
General Guidelines
- Remember that the game is a fantasy game where players pretend to be a particular persona, and so
please keep all actions within the spirit of this - if you have an argument with another persona, keep it as an
argument with that 'persona', try to avoid bringing it as a blanket disagreement with the other personas of
that player - they may well play these as completely different characters, and especially avoid destroying
the atmosphere of the game by involving 'real life' with your interactions on the game.
- Don't use obscene language, or offensive behaviour within the game - as a rough guideline dont say
anything that wouldn't be allowed on TV before 9pm, and remember the game is international, there may
be players on in a completely different time zone - it might not be 2am to them!
- Do not use more that one game persona at once on the game, multi-playing of any form is not allowed.
- There is no restriction on player / player fighting in Shades and Avatar, but do not take take advantage of
a large level difference to victimise other players to excess. (There is no player / player fighting in Trash)
- Do not utilise bugs in the software for gain, if you discover a bug please let us know and you may well be
rewarded for it!
- Especially in Shades as it is a fast moving game, be aware of 'net lag', if you have a high level persona, or
in a dangerous position and have been/are experiencing 'lag' - you may well be advised to seek a safe
place, or play a lower persona until the 'net' recovers - we will not be responsible for point loss, or refund
points lost due to congested Internet links.
- Apart from that - just about anything goes!
Guidelines for Wizards (Gods/Managers/Greater Avatars)
- Remember that your wizard and mortal personas are supposed
to be different creations - play them seperately without using
one to backup the other.
- It is not considered acceptable to use your wizard to
watch and find out everything about a mortal on the game
prior to immediatly using your own mortal persona to
attack them - if possible leave a slight gap between logons
(60 seconds or more) and then you are less likely to be
accused of this!
- Do not under any circumstance use any knowledge gained
by your wizard to pass on information to mortals regarding who
actually plays different persona, although it is acceptable for
mortals to discuss their suspicions.
- Although not serious, it is considered bad form for a wizard
to reveal the identity of any wizards who are currently on the
game inivisble to mortals who would not know.
- Be carefull of the situtions where you use your wizard to
deal with supposed injustice to one of your own mortal persona,
it is much better to refer the matter to another wizard on-line
at the time as this avoids acqusations of unfairness.
An Immortal has a great deal of power within the game and use of that power involves considerable responsibility
as well. What you do as an Immortal is largely up to you, but you must not act in a way that disrupts the game, or
significantly affects the score of any of the mortal players. For example, you should not MT the LS from one
player and give it to another in order to assist one player to kill another.
Neither should you give large quantities of T to any players or RESET the game while there are significant
quantities of treasure left - though you will be put under considerable pressure by mortal personas to do just this.
You can of course give small gifts to players, and if you like organise riddles or puzzles for the players with the
winner get a prize such as the crown.
If you do tease mortals, it's normal to give them some treasure to make up for it - basically you shouldn't give
treasures to mortals without making them work for it, but it's totally acceptable to give out a couple of thousand
points of T per RESET as long as you don't favour one player more than the others. Generally wizards should
ensure that their aura of power and mystique is enhanced by not showing any favouritism, and zapping players
who pester them.
For example, if a player should decide to kick you, throwing them out of the game will remind them of the power
you wield. Of course, some players will always try and annoy you and in these cases you should try to avoid
slanging matchs - just keep zapping them! The only real rule as an Immortal is that you must not do anything that
materially affects a mortals chances of becoming Immortal (and this applies either way, by making it too easy or
too hard) - breaking this rule may well lead to the loss of your persona.
Occasionally you may have cause to kill a mortal, for example if a player is abusive and will not desist even after
repeated warnings. In this sort of case a simple ZAP is not enough of a penalty, but before you take action you
must be quite sure it is justified, and have sufficient witnesses.
Remember, an Immortal is held in awe and respected by most mortals- how you act and how players respond to
you is entirely up to you.
