SECTION III: INFORMATION PERSONAE CONSTRUCTION
Chapter 7 - Information Architecture
7.9 Network topologies and biological principles
7.9.1 A group of researchers at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom is developing a Hyperspace World-Wide-Web Visualizer, a system that produces 3D "molecular model" topology maps. Xerox Parc has been developing a Content Browser based on hyperbolic geometry for visualising large hierarchies. With the advent of the Internet 2 [15] and ubiquitous computing, we are bound to see networked spaces move into three-dimensional topographies. Scientific discoveries are influencing the way we think about information and moving beyond digital computing into the biological realm. But with the overwhelming number of computers connecting daily to the global network, we will be looking more and more toward agent technologies to help us conceptualise and devise systems based on principles of self-organisation, auto-poietics, and even tensegrity. In the chapter that follows, I will present some of the agent technologies that are being developed and the concept of the Information Personae mobile agent system. [top]
