Within the curiosity cabinet, objects were not subsumed by the rubrics under which they are organized; they can belong to several categories simultaneously under several headings. While these stringed instruments represent their respective continents, they also represent the art of music, objects of artifice, the sense of hearing from the five senses. They also set up visual and conceptual resonances with other objects in the space.
