mission

Founded in 1988, Art & Science Collaborations, Inc. (ASCI) is one of the few art & technology members organizations in the USA. Established primarily as a network for artists who either use or are inspired by science and technology, ASCI has become a magnet for some of the best examples of this type of contemporary art and for technologists wishing to collaborate. ASCI programms and services provide members with opportunities for proffessional growth, increased public visibility, and a supportive community.

programs and services

  • ASCI publishes a bi-weekly ASCI BULLETIN that offers easy access to information and resources compiled from several media and art fields including: video, audio, computer graphics, multimedia, sculpture, performance & www.

  • Members' Meetings in SoHo are an informal way to meet members, find collaborators, network, and share ideas. (on "announcement basis")

  • The ASCI Website (sponsored partly by NTT-AD, USA, and Octet Media.com) mounts ASCI virtual exhibitions, featured artist's work, up-dates on ASCI projects, TEKmart (artist materials and resources) etc.

  • Exhibition, commission, and publication opportunities have been made by partnering with: Snug Harbor Cultural Center, The New York Hall of Science, Manhattan Marymount College, and the LEONARDO journal, among others.

  • Public events that featured pioneers in the field: an "Art & Technology" Speaker Series in the Great Hall, Cooper Union (1993-1995), and the first CYBER FAIR FOR ARTISTS, 1995, several kinetic and light art exhibitions.

  • A developing network of scientists and technical collaborators.

  • An extensive slide and video tape file for use by curators and writers.

  • Public presentations on members' work at universities, conferences, festivals.

  • ASCI joins "Thunder Gulch"- an experimental art/techno lab in NYC.

  • Future generations - Our Director has sat on the AT&T's panel for *New Experiments in Art and Technology* a funding program for international science and children's museums.

  • Two new public projects have been developed for 1998:
    LightForms'98
an International Competition and Exhibition of "light art" to be installed in the Great Hall at the New York Hall of Science, Flushing Meadows Park Corona, NYC. This will perhaps be the first monumental, site-specific, and interactive light art exhibition in the world. The site, built for the 1965 World's Fair is uniquely suited for such a show.
    Art/Sci'98
a two-day symposium on the synergy of creativity and discovery in both art and science. Top research scientists from Dupont, Bell Labs, MIT, Harvard, NYU, etc. will present the concepts of their most recent challenging projects, alongside artists, writers, educators/theorists and industry reps. The purpose is to meet the people behind the work and provide a groundwork for possible collaboration.
